Viavelez, a traditional fishing village on the route of St. James Way

The camino de Santiago passes through Viavelez and is within 3 hours of the most vibrant cities in northern spain including Bilbao, Santander, Oviedo, Gijon, Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña and their airports.

Lonely beaches, wild mountains and the famous Asturian “sidra”

“La Postoca” offers an immersion in the local culture of Asturias. The owners, the architect and the artists whose works are displayed in the house are all from the nearby area. A profound respect for the local environment and culture as well a focus on comfort and entertainment is what makes a stay in “La Postoca” a truly unique holiday experience.

THE VILLAGE

An authentic northern Spanish traditional fishermen´s village

Viavelez, located on the western edge of the province of Asturias, is without doubt one of the most charming fishing ports of the whole coastline of northern Spain. A pedestrian village with charming alleyways which wander from various scenic lookout points down through traditionally styled white maritime houses accented with multicolored doors and shutters to the the historic port where local fishermen can be found working on their fishing boats and nets truly make Viavelez a postcard setting.

A center of sailboat constuction in the mid 19th century

Time appears to stand still on its original stone docks of Viavelez which, in the mid 19th century, was the center of sailboat construction in Asturias and later an important timber port. The sensation of peaceful isolation and living history in Viavelez is complemented nicely by the proximity of the bustling towns of Tapia, Navia and La Caridad as well as the charming villages of coastal Galicia, all within walking or short driving distance.

THE HOUSE

A boutique house designed by a local architect

“La Postoca” was designed by a local Asturian architect who took advantage of the south facing orientation by locating a large terrace which appears to float over one of the village alleyways. This terrace is the ideal setting for enjoying the views of the village and forests and the sounds of the nearby river.

Natural light and original artwork

Just inside from the terrace a spacious multi-level living area can be found flooded by natural light and with a variety of comfortable areas ideal for relaxing and enjoying the fireplace and a host of thoughtful details including orginal artwork from local artists.

Individually designed rooms

The living area connects via a series exposed staircases to the other areas of the house which include a spacious kitchen, 4 bedrooms, and 2.5 bathrooms. These individually designed rooms are located on various levels of the house and offer unique views of the interior of the house as well as views of the village and port.

“La Postoca” has exposed staircases, multilevels and large windows. We recommend that clients with small children be especially vigilant to avoid any possible accidents.

Sleeping masks are available for clients as the bedrooms in “La Postoca” are not completely dark at nighttime.

The garage is a storage space for canoes, surfboards, bicycles and other material and is not spacious enough for most cars, however if needed there is enough space for smaller vehicles.

One of the bedrooms has a bunk bed which sleeps 2 people, this bedroom is not as spacious as the other bedrooms.

Viavélez is a very small village and has no shops or services. However in the larger village of La Caridad, which is 2 km away, shops and services including groceries, banks, physicians, pharmacies, hardware stores etc…are available.
